Michigan Man Commits Suicide After Killing Spree

A man killed himself Thursday night after going on a killing spree that left 7 people in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Local police say officers were negotiations with 34-year-old Rodrick Dantzler to free two hostages when he suddenly committed suicide.

Hours before his death Dantzler went to two different residences and murdered seven people, including two children. His daughter and ex-girlfriend are believed to be among the dead. Four bodies were discovered at one house and three at the other. At least two other people were wounded.

Dantzler took three people hostage in another home shortly after a 15 minute car chase with police. He freed one of the hostages before shooting himself. Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk said at one point during negotiations Dantzler asked officers to shoot him.  "It does not make sense. You cannot make sense out of things like this," Belk said.

The motive behind Dantzler’s shooting spree is unknown.
