New York Apartment Block Fire in Chinatown Kills at least One, 21 Injured

Firefighters in New York’s Chinatown continue to battle a fire that has consumed an apartment building, killing at least one and leaving 21 injured.

 

The fire broke shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Manhattan’s James Street, sending residents running into the streets while some were forced to leap from windows. Nearly 40 fire trucks were on the scene and about 170 firefighters were battling the blaze.

 

At least five of those injured in the fire were listed in critical condition

 

There has been no word on what caused the fire that quickly spread through the six-story building.
