Japanese PM Taro Aso and U.S. President Barack Obama to Hold White House Meeting

U.S. President Barack Obama will welcome his first foreign leader into the White House on Tuesday when he holds meetings with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso.

Obama and Aso are expected to outline a plan to revive their struggling economies as well as re-establish a once strong relationship that cooled considerably when the United States removed North Korea from a list of states that sponsor terrorism.

The focus of the discussions will almost certainly center on the economy and Aso is expected to address wording in the recent U.S. stimulus plan that was passed. Obama’s $787 billion package has been criticized by many foreign governments for wording that suggested a greater support for American manufacturers.

During the recent G7 meetings in Italy several participating countries expressed concern about protectionism during the economic crisis and specifically mentioned the wording in the U.S. economic stimulus plan.
