Holistic Drug Rehab Treats Addiction Rather than Masking It
The American Holistic Health Association defines their approach to holistic health as balance and integration of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well being, cooperative relationships, and a wellness orientated lifestyle with active participation in your own health and healing. This is the approach the Freedom Center takes toward drug and alcohol rehabilitation.
In order to be truly free of addiction, one must not simply switch addictions, as is often the case with more ‘traditional’ rehabilitation centers. For instance, often people with opiate addictions are given prescriptions for opiate inhibitors and/or opiate replacement medicines, such as methadone or buprenorphine. Users don’t get high, but still remain dependent upon a substance or substances. A simple example of this is the fact that in many cases, methadone clinics and doctors actually increase the dosage of methadone rather than decrease, as the user’s body becomes more tolerant of the substance – one of the signs of addiction as noted by the Mayo Clinic. In addition, someone dependent upon methadone will suffer through the same withdrawals as with any other opiod, however they may last considerably longer (30-120 days depending on dose and body type, compared to 7-10 days for heroin).
This is not the case at the Freedom Center. People are guided through a withdrawal process with only natural substances to help replenish their bodies with the vitamins and nutrients that their addiction has deprived. Following the all natural withdrawal process, the next step is an introductory course on confronting, controlling, and communicating in regards to one’s addiction and the issues in their lives. After this course people are fully detoxified in a dry sauna regiment, in order to remove all the remaining drug and alcohol residues from substance abuse. Moreover, most people once completed with the sauna portion of the program remark about how well they are finally sleeping, how the cravings for drugs and alcohol have subsided (if not gone altogether), and how great they feel overall. This is all attributable to the holistic nature of the Freedom Center program.
Upon completion of the program, people are once again ready to live life to the fullest without dependency upon drugs and alcohol. They have gained the skills necessary to confront and control situations in life, communicate effectively, overcome painful situations from the past, avoid future potential pitfalls, and restore their ethics, morals, and responsibility for their health and well being.
The Freedom Center’s program has been in use since 1966, and continues to help people to this day. Their success rate of 70% is over three times higher than the national average, the vast majority of which are based on 12-step programs and psychiatric approaches often involving the use of other substances. If you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol and/or drug abuse, let the Freedom Center help. Their all natural, holistic approach to drug and alcohol rehabilitation alleviates the dependency on substances, allowing for healthy, wholesome living.
