Client’s who enter our Alcohol Rehab Facility will first go through a medical examination, with our medical director, where they will work together to determine the safest and most successful approach for detox. Every client’s situation is viewed different and that is one of the reasons why our program has been able to achieve a 70% success rate.
The majority of programs use the one concept fits all approach, spending the majority of their time addressing the person’s addiction. Here, we address the underlying issues that caused the addition and help the person to identify their abilities.
Alcohol addiction is defined as the overconsumption of alcohol. A person does not have to drink everyday to be considered an alcoholic. Alcohol interferes with a person’s everyday life, family, job responsibilities, and social behaviors. It alters the mind in the sense that it decreases the person’s ability to make logical decisions, as well as, changes behavior and interferes with the person’s motor skills.
Where there are individuals that drink socially having only a few drinks every now and again, many people drink to reach that high or euphoria. They begin to use alcohol as an excuse to get away from the stress in their life. Then they build up a tolerance to a few drinks and begin to rely on massive consumption to function properly. They begin to need alcohol daily to get through a day. A person suffering from alcohol addiction loses control of their limits and begins to go out of bounds with their addiction. When things get tough, they defer to alcohol to control the current situation and their emotional feelings, instead of facing their problems head on. They then begin creating more troubles for themselves and others.
Often, alcohol addiction is the cause of many family break ups, due to the increased stress that the addiction places on the family members of the alcoholic. It causes the person to lose sense of responsibilities and may interfere with their career and social life.
Most common signs of addiction to alcohol are:
Ø Violent outrages
Ø Tremors
Ø Nausea and vomiting
Ø Secretiveness
Ø Loss of hunger
Ø Lack of control
Ø Hostility
According to The Partnership at DrugFree.org, “sudden cessation of long term, extensive alcohol intake is likely to produce withdrawal symptoms.” Withdrawal symptoms can lead to many detrimental and possibly fatal side effects.
Side effects most commonly associated with the withdrawal of alcohol include:
Ø Abdominal discomfort
Ø Confusion
Ø Numbness and tingling
Ø Anxiety
Ø Depression
Ø Hallucinations
Ø Increased temperature
Ø Increased heart rate
Ø Increased blood pressure
Ø Seizures
Ø Tremors
Ø Restlessness
Ø Nervousness
Once the person has reached the intense state of addiction to alcohol, they can suffer from withdrawal symptoms once the body has released all the components associated with alcohol. These symptoms are not pleasing and can be fatal if left untreated. Most commonly, people suffering from alcohol addiction have to admit themselves into alcohol rehab to get through the barriers associated with the addiction.
Long-term effects of addiction to alcohol may include:
Ø Cancer (esophageal, larynx, liver)
Ø Brain disorders
Ø Neurologic disorders
Ø Gastrointestinal bleeding
Ø Cirrhosis of the liver
Ø Heart disease
Ø Liver disease
Ø Memory loss
Ø Pancreatitis
Ø Depression
Ø Suicidal attempts
Ø Death
