Turkish
Airlines Flight TK 1951 crashed while attempting to land at Amsterdam’s
Schiphol international airport on Wednesday killing at least 9 people and
leaving more than 50 people injured.
Flight
TK 1951, carrying 128 passengers and seven crew members, was descending for
landing when it fell short of the runway and broke into three pieces.
There
have been no reports on what caused the flight, en route from Istanbul, to
crash but visibility at the time of landing was said to be good and maintenance
records showed the plane to be in sound order.
Passengers
reported the plane dropped quickly, seemingly hitting turbulence and within
moments the tail of the plane hit the ground and caused the plane to slide and
fracture into three pieces. Officials have said the death toll could have been
much higher had the crash ignited a fire.
