GOP presidential candidates sign marriage pledge

By: Daun Lee

Republican candidates for 2012, Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum, sign “The Marriage Vow.”

According to the Huffington Post, the “Marriage Vow” is a pledge based on social issues. It was created by Iowa-based Vander Platts, who heads the conservative group Family Leader. Signing the pledge is required in order to obtain the groups endorsement for presidency.

The pledge demands that the candidates must stand behind an “amendment to the Constitution which protects the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.” Signing the pledge also means approving a ban on pornography.

Two other GOP candidates have not yet signed the pledge, Tim Pawlenty and John Huntsman. Huntsman stated the only pledge he is willing to stand by is the “pledge of allegiance." Pawlenty has stated he is reviewing the pledge, and has not made a decision on whether to sign.

The “Marriage Vow” pledge gives constituents a clear definition of the moral stand these candidates take on the viewpoint of marriage.

In modern society, even though married couples take a vow to uphold the sanctity of marriage, so many of them end in divorce often aided by a divorce attorney. The statistics show that 50 to 40 percent of marriages are dissolved.

Divorce is inevitable for some couples and when they can no longer remain in their marriages they will need the expertise of a divorce lawyer. It is hard decision for many to make, but can be unavoidable. To make sure their assets are protected is important to find a knowledgeable divorce attorney.
