NBA Scores: Dwight Howard Too Much as Orlando Magic Hold Off New York Knicks Fourth Quarter Surge

Dwight Howard finished with 24 points and 21 rebounds, Hedo Turkoglu added 33 points and Rafer Alston chipped in 15 points and collected four steals as the Orlando Magic (42-15) held off a late charge by the New York Knicks (24-33) and won 114-109 on Wednesday night.

Howard scored 12 points in the opening frame as the Magic led 25-15 after one and the Knicks showed few signs of life in the second as Turkoglu poured in 10 points and Orlando held a 57-43 advantage at the break.

The Knicks tried to climb back into the game in the third as Wilson Chandler put 13 points on the board but New York could only manage to trim their deficit to 81-71 heading into the fourth. New York climbed to within 94-89 after Al Harrington hit a 13-foot jumper with 3:47 left on the clock but Alston buried a three-pointer and Rashard Lewis hit a triple after Nate Robinson hit one of two from the foul line and the Magic were back up by ten.

New York hung tough and Robinson sank a triple with 31 seconds left in the game to pull the Knicks to within 108-104 and after Alston hit one of two from the foul-line Danilo Gallinari hit a three and the score was 109-107. Orlando extended their lead to 113-109 and after Robinson missed a three-pointer with 10 seconds left the Knicks chances ran dry.
