WARREN WOODS COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS RECEIVES GRANT FROM W.K. KELLOGG FOUNDATION FOR FAMILY FINANCIAL MENTORING

Warren Woods Community Connections (WWCC) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to provide financial mentoring to families undergoing severe financial hardship in Macomb County.  The grant is for one year.

“There are thousands of families struggling in this difficult economic environment,” said Chet Decker, WWCC Executive Director.  “The Kellogg Foundation’s generous grant allows Warren Woods Community Connections to partner with local social service agencies that will refer families in need to us.  Our goal is to provide these families with the tools they need to achieve financial stability and create a healthy family environment.”

Family financial mentoring is designed to help households establish a working family budget, provide assistance in accessing county resources, resolve credit problems, assist in resume’ preparation and provide coaching in job interview skills.  The goal is to allow the families to achieve financial stability which leads to providing a stable home for children and lessening the chance of homelessness.

Family Financial Mentoring comprises several components: financial training, one-on-one financial mentoring, credit counseling, connecting families to existing services available in the community, resume preparation, and training in job interview skills.
