Jon
Lester tossed two scoreless innings and struck out one while allowing two hits
but the Boston offense managed to produce just three singles and fell to the Pittsburgh
Pirates 3-2 in spring training action on Thursday.
The
Red Sox jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jeff Bailey drove in
Dustin Pedroia and J.D. Drew with a two-out single.
That
lead held until the ninth when Pittsburgh put three runs on the board, two of
those earned, and Daniel Haigwood kept the Red Sox off the board in the bottom
half of the frame to give the Pirates the win.
