A popular Argentine folk singer was killed in a shooting over the weekend in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Authorities say 74-year-old Facundo Cabral was a passenger in a Ranger Rover driven by Nicaraguan businessman Henry Farina when gunmen opened fire. At least 20 bullets hit the vehicle.
Cabral, who was in Guatemala as part of a Latin America tour, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Farina was wounded. The men were on their way to the airport when the attack occurred.
Authorities say the motive for the shooting remains unclear, but Farina is believed to have been the target. "Everything points to that the attack was directed at him (Farina), and not the artist," said Guatemalan Interior Minister Carlos Menocal.
Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom has declared three days of national mourning for Cabral.
