Hundreds of Australian Schools Closed as Wildfires Expected to Intensify

Just weeks after wildfires in the Australian state of Victoria killed 210 people and destroyed thousands of homes the south-eastern state is in danger again as more than 200 schools have been closed as conditions in the area have worsened.

Officials have already encouraged residents to leave the area, warning that a lack of rain, unpredictable winds, high temperatures and dry foliage could present yet another catastrophe.

The decision to leave the area must be made soon according to officials. They have stressed that by the time the fires are visible it could be too late to escape. A large number of the victims in the blazes earlier this month were found inside burned out cars as they attempted to flee.
