The
Washington Redskins have landed the biggest free-agent prize of 2009 as they
lured the defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth away from the Tennessee Titans
and signed the All-Pro to a deal believed to be worth around $100 million for
seven years.
Haynesworth,
27, signed the deal early Friday morning and the Redskins have announced they will
hold a news conference later in the day to reveal the signing.
Washington
was in need of an interior lineman and the signing of Haynesworth certainly
filled that hole as he collected 75 tackles, forced four fumbles and 8 ½ sacks.
Following
a standout career at the University of Tennessee Haynesworth was drafted in the
first round by the Tennessee Titans in the 2002 NFL Draft.
