Jason
Bartlett went 2-3 with a pair of singles and 3 RBIs, Fernando Perez went 2-3
with a double, scored twice and drove in two and Evan Longoria had a two-run
homer in three at bats as the Tampa Bay Rays jumped all over the Boston Red Sox
in the early innings and won 12-4 in spring training action on Friday.
The
Rays tagged Red Sox starter Michael Bowden for four runs over 1 2/3 innings and
then pounded Enrique Gonzalez for another six runs (five earned) over the next
1 1/3 innings to hold a 10-0 lead after the third inning.
Boston’s
bats continued to struggle on Friday as they collected just six hits with Nick Green owning two of those.
For
the Rays, Jeff Niemann looked strong in his starting role as he tossed two
innings of one-hit ball and struck out two.
