The St. Louis Cardinals survived a shaky start from Todd Wellemeyer and a rough final two innings from Adam Ottavino and Royce Ring to beat the New York Mets 9-8 in spring training action on Friday.

Allen Craig collected a pair of singles and two RBIs while Jon Jay had two hits including double and an RBI and scored three runs in the win. Albert Pujols finished 1-2 and scored a run while Rick Ankiel went 1-3.

After Wellemeyer surrendered four runs in the second inning the Cardinals got shutout innings from Josh Kinney, Jason Motte, two shutout innings from P.J. Walters and a scoreless frame from Trever Miller.

Bobby Kielty came on as a pinch-hitter in the ninth and hit a three-run homer for the Mets before Ring recorded the final out.
