UK company develops wall covering to prevent asbestos exposure

By: Daun Lee

The Datatecnics Company in the UK has developed a wall covering, which can protect construction workers and building occupants from asbestos exposure.

The wall covering is a thin film of polymer that gives off an alarm if the film is penetrated. The UK company developed the film in response the large number of buildings and schools that contain asbestos. The film offers an alternative to removal, which is costly and puts people at risk of developing a variety of pulmonary diseases. Mesothelioma lawyers will attest to the dangers of contact with asbestos.

Asbestos is a known carcinogen and was used as insulation in buildings throughout the 1900s. When left undisturbed the asbestos doesn’t pose much of a health risk, but simple renovations can cause the fibers to become airborne, and put a person at risk of developing mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that is generally fatal, and mesothelioma attorney can obtain compensation for people suffering from this terrible disease.

The polymer, called ADAAS or asbestos disturbance automated alarm system, is made with a web of micro tracks with sensors connected to a main control panel, which will set off an alarm if the film is breached. Datatecnics believes the film can be used in place of expensive removal, and potentially protect people from contracting mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma lawyers and environmental activists have fought to protect people from unnecessary exposure to asbestos. Their hard work has helped many asbestos victims secure funds needed for their healthcare.
