New York authorities have charged 35-year-old Levi Aron with second degree murder in the horrific killing of 8-year-old Hasidic boy Leiby Kleztky. Aron was charged Wednesday, the same day Kleztky was buried.
Kletzky was reported missing Monday when he failed to meet up with his mother after attending Boyan Day Camp. He was last seen walking in the Borough Park community near 44th street and 12th Avenue. Authorities were led to Aron by surveillance videos from the area. Video footage showed Aron and Kletzky walking together. A search of Aron’s apartment uncovered body parts in the refrigerator, a butcher block and large amounts of blood. Aron told police he killed Kletzky because he “panicked” over police looking for the child. He then cut the boy’s body in to pieces and stored some body parts in his freezer. The rest of Kletzky’s body was found in a trash can outside an auto repair shop about 2 miles from Aron’s apartment.
"This is every parents' nightmare. We understand that. This is what makes this case so horrific,” said NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.
