Paul Harvey, Talk-Radio Pioneer and Presidential Medal of Freedom Honoree, Dies at 90

Paul Harvey, the talk-radio pioneer whose voice was heard on ABC Radio Networks for more than 50 years, has died at the age of 90.

Perhaps best remembered on the radio for his “The Rest of the Story” segment Harvey delivered daily broadcasts through News and Comment and parlayed his distinctive voice and opinions on world news into an induction into the Radio Hall of Fame.

In 2005 President George W. Bush presented Harvey with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award offered by the United States. Bush released a statement after learning of Harvey’s death in which he noted, “"His commentary entertained, enlightened and informed, Laura and I are pleased to have known this fine man, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

ABC Radio Networks President Jim Robinson also released a statement following Harvey’s passing on Saturday, “Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation's history. We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him.”

Harvey passed away at a Phoenix, Arizona hospital on Saturday surrounded by his family. The cause of death has not been released.
