Coast Guard Searching for Missing Fishing Boat Carrying NFL Players

The Coast Guard in Florida is searching for a missing fishing boat that is believed to be carrying at least two NFL players.

According to reports Oakland Raiders linebacker Victor “Marquis” Cooper and Detroit Lions defensive end Corey Smith were among four men on a boat that was reported missing around 1:30 a.m. The boat had departed from the Seminole Boat Ramp in Clearwater early Saturday morning and was due back after dark but never returned.

The Coast Guard has sent out a 47-foot motor-life boat crew, a Jayhawk helicopter, a C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircrew and a Coast Guard Cutter Crocodile to search for the missing fishing boat.

Cooper, 26, was signed as a free agent by the Raiders in 2008 after playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Smith, 29, is an unrestricted free agent who was originally drafted by the Buccaneers and played two years with the San Francisco 49ers before signing with the Lions in 2006.
