Richard Hamilton had 25 points and 9 assists, Tayshaun Prince added 15 points and 8 rebounds and Rasheed Wallace finished with 15 points and 6 boards as the Detroit Pistons (29-29) went on the road and knocked off the Boston Celtics (47-14) 105-95 on Sunday afternoon.
Detroit jumped to an 11-2 lead in the opening frame with four Pistons pointing points on the board and they lead 20-13 with 1:40 left in the quarter but the Celtics closed with a 9-0 run to carry a 22-20 advantage into the second. In the second it was the Pistons who closed strong as they overcame a 44-41 deficit with a 14-3 spurt to close the half and held a 55-47 lead at the break.
The Celtics opened the third with a 12-0 run as Glenn Davis scored six but the Pistons countered with a 6-0 spurt of their own and by the end of the quarter they were in front 77-70. Boston managed to climb back and after Eddie House hit a 22-foot jumper the Celtics were up 85-81 but the Pistons stayed close and when Jason Maxiell tipped in a Rodney Stuckey miss with 3:53 on the clock Detroit moved in front 90-89 and then closed the game on an 11-4 run to seal the win.
Detroit hit 34-40 from the free-throw line and 7-14 from beyond the three-point line while the Celtics hit just 2-14 from long range.
