Eva Langoria, star of Desperate Housewives has been forced to shut down her Las Vegas nightclub because of financial troubles.
The Eve Club is attached to the Beso Steakhouse, which is a franchise of Langoria’s popular Los Angeles eatery opened in 2009. The club closed on Monday because it was unable to get control of over $5 million in debts.
Langoria owns a third of the club, but is also listed as an unsecured creditor.
Beso LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year, the club was losing an estimated $76,000 dollars a month.
Lenard Scwhartzer, the bankruptcy attorney for Beso LLC, said the restaurant will remain open because it is profitable. The club could eventually be renovated and reopened.
Ashley Madison, owner of an online dating service has put in a bid to purchase the club. They sent a letter today, to the bankruptcy lawyers in an attempt to acquire EVE Club and help Beso emerge from bankruptcy.
Nightclubs and restaurants can be profitable business, but they have extremely high overhead. This overhead can accumulate rapidly, and the owners may find that filing for bankruptcy is the only way to get out of the failing business.
Despite the type of business, when debts accrue and become overwhelming, the only option may be to see a bankruptcy attorney to give the owner a fresh start. There are a number of ways to restructure debts and recover some of the financial losses.
