Authorities in Mexico have discovered what they describe as the largest marijuana plantation ever in the country. Gen. Alfonso Duarte Mugica said over 300 acres of marijuana plants were found in Ensenada, Baja California. The plants were hidden between tomato stalks and covered in black screen cloth, which made it hard for authorities to detect.
Authorities estimate the marijuana plants, which are more than 8 feet tall, are worth about $160 million. The Mexican army plans to have 250 soldiers destroy the drugs by burning them.
Only 6 people were arrested in connection with the plantation. “We estimate that in this area, approximately 60 people were working. When they saw the military personnel, they fled," Duarte told reporters.
