Theodore
Geisel, better known to millions of readers as Dr. Seuss, would have turned 105
today and to celebrate the search engine giant Google opted to use some of
Geisel’s most beloved characters to spell out its name.
Geisel
died in 1991 after publishing more than 60 children’s books, among the most
famous being Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.
In
2002 the Dr. Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden opened in his birthplace of
Springfield, Massachusetts and in December 2008 Geisel was inducted into the
California Hall of Fame.
Geisel
is credited with selling more than 220 million copies of his books and has had
his work transalted into 15 languages.
