Casey Anthony Trial Date Set for October, Facing Life in Prison for Murder of Daughter

Judge Stan Strickland has set a tentative date for the murder trial involving Casey Anthony, the Orlando woman who stands accused of first-degree murder charges in the death of her two-year-old daughter Caylee Anthony.

Strickland had also ruled to allow the release of hundreds of photos of Casey Anthony, something her defense attorney Jose Baez had been fighting against. Several of those photos show Casey Anthony partying during the period in which Caylee was missing.

Casey failed to notify police that her daughter had been missing for more than a month and after reporting Caylee missing she refused to cooperate in the investigation. She still maintains that she dropped Caylee off with a babysitter and when she returned both were gone.

The search for Caylee Anthony lasted for more than six months until her remains were found on Dec. 11 less than a half mile from the Orlando home she lived in with her mother and grandparents.

Baez did successfully block the release of a video that caught Casey Anthony’s reaction to news that Caylee’s remains had been found. Baez had argued that the release of the tape would have made it harder to secure a fair jury as well as violated her patient and medical privacy rights since she was in the Orange County Jail’s medical clinic when she received the news.

Prosecutors have said the trial would last about four weeks.
