Manny
Ramirez will be back in Dodger blue for the 2009 season as the slugger agreed
to a two-year, $45 million deal pending a physical.
The
deal was struck on Wednesday as Los Angeles Dodgers manager Joe Torre, owner
Frank McCourt and GM Ned Colletti met with Ramirez and his agents Scott Boras
and Mike Fiore. According to the new deal Ramirez will have the opportunity to
opt out of the contract after one year while the Dodgers will be able to defer
$25 million of the contract over five years.
Ramirez
was a huge addition to the Dodgers last year. After arriving from Boston at the
trade deadline the left fielder hit .396 with 17 HRs and 53 RBIs in 53 games
and helped the Dodgers win the National League West.
