Somali pirates hijacked a UAE oil tanker over the weekend and are currently holding all 16 of the tanker’s crew members hostage. The European Union Naval Force released a statement Monday saying at least 9 pirates boarded the MV Jubba XX Saturday morning during the tanker’s regular route from the United Arab Emirates to Berbera, Somalia.
"Little information is available at present but it is reported that nine suspected Somali pirates are on board," the European Union Naval Force said.
The condition of the crew is unknown. The crew reportedly includes three Bangladeshi men, five Indians, four Somalis, one Kenyan, one Sudanese, one Myanmarese and one Sri Lankan.
