The
Dallas Cowboys have released All-Pro wide receiver Terrell Owens, a drastic
move following a disappointing 9-7 season that left the club outside of the NFC
playoffs.
Owens
was widely criticized for his attacks on fellow players and coaching staff as the
Cowboys fell apart after starting the year 4-1. Despite the controversy
surrounding Owens it appeared that he was safe in Dallas as owner Jerry Jones seemed
to suggest the wide receiver would remain in a Cowboys uniform.
That
changed Wednesday night when Owens, who sits sixth on the NFL’s list of most
receptions in a career, was released. Owens had just signed a four-year, $32
million deal last season in which he earned a $12 million signing bonus.
