New
York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will undergo surgery on his right hip
to remove a cyst and as a result will not be back in uniform until May.
According
to Rodriguez’s brother the three-time AL MVP will undergo surgery on Monday in
Vail, Colorado and is expected to face about ten weeks of recovery.
In
addition to missing the opening of the Yankees regular season Rodriguez will
also be off the Dominican Republic roster for the World Baseball Classic that
is now underway. Rodriguez had been looking forward to playing alongside David
Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, Hanley Ramirez and his fellow countrymen but will now
turn his attention to recovery.
Rodriguez
had been experiencing stiffness in his right hip and after having it examined
doctors discovered the formation of a cyst.
