The
United States continued preparation for the World Baseball Classic and on
Thursday they used the longball to get past the Philadelphia Phillies 9-6.
Chipper
Jones highlighted a four-run third inning for the U.S. with a three-run bomb
off Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick to put them in front 4-1 by the end of the frame.
In
the fourth inning the U.S. returned to the power game as Ryan Braun and Brian
McCann each hit solo blasts. Adam Dunn then added a three-run bomb in the top
of the fifth inning to push the advantage to 9-1.
Philadelphia
responded in the bottom of the fifth as Ryan Howard hit a three-run homer off
Matt Lindstrom and they added runs in the sixth and eighth before Jonathan
Broxton closed the door on Philly with a perfect ninth inning for the U.S.
squad.
The
U.S. opens their World Baseball Classic schedule on Saturday when they face
