The
New York Mets pitching staff had an all-or-nothing day against Italy in a World
Baseball Classic exhibition game on Thursday as they gave up ten hits, walked
eight batters and struck out ten in a 2-0 loss.
In
contrast to the Mets pitching Italy surrendered just four hits and two walks
while striking out four.
Italy
scored both their runs in the third inning as Chris Denorfia and Guiseppe
Mazzanti collected two-out RBIs off Brian Stokes. Both Denorfia and Mazzanti
collected a pair of hits on the day in leading the Italians to the win.
Mets
starter John Maine worked two innings and struck out three while walking three
and allowed two hits.
Italy
opens their World Baseball Classic schedule on Saturday when they face Venezuela.
