Rubio's Signs On With U.S. Putting Tour

Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill to sponsor the U.S. Putting Tour's 2011 national championship in Carlsbad, California

Carlsbad, California-based Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill has signed on as a sponsor of the U.S. Putting Tour's 2011 national championship, which will take place in Carlsbad September 26 through October 2.

In becoming a sponsor, Rubio's joins another Carlsbad business, Carlsbad Premium Outlets, in supporting this national golf event being held at The Crossings.

"We're thrilled to have Rubio's come on board as a sponsor of the USPT Championship," said USPT president, Jim Hartley. "It's always a great thing to be aligned with such a quality company."

The inaugural USPT Championship is open to all golfers ages 13 and up. Men and women will compete together for the title of America's Best Putter. Professionals will compete for cash prizes, including $10,000 for first place. Amateurs will compete for merchandise prizes.

Golfers interested in competing in the putting championship can enter at the putting tour website, USPuttingTour.com. When registering, golfers choose the day during Championship Week on which they want to play their first round. They have four days from which to choose.

A total of 72 golfers will advance to the final day of the putting tournament, known as Championship Sunday, on October 2. After playing 36 holes, the low 24 scores will play another 36 holes in the afternoon to determine the winner and top finishers.

Rubio's has been a fixture in Carlsbad and all of San Diego since Ralph Rubio and his father, Ray, opened their first restaurant, a walk-up stand, in Mission Bay in 1983. Since then, Rubio's has sold over 50 million fish tacos. Today, Rubio's has 180 locations throughout the western United States and serves a diverse menu of Baja-influenced Mexican food.
