Peter Tork, a member of the 60s group The Monkees, has announced
that he has a rare form of head and neck cancer.
The singer announced the news on his website Tuesday
saying that doctors for adenoid cystic carcinoma in his tongue. Adenoid cystic
carcinoma (ACC) is an uncommon form of malignant neoplasm that forms in
secretory glands, most commonly the salivary glands of the head and neck.
Tork said the cancer is so rare “that there isnt a lot of
experience among the medical community.” “On the other hand, the type of cancer
it is, never mind the location, is somewhat well-known, and the prognosis, I’m
told, is good,” he added.
A spokesman for Tork, 67, said the star had surgery in
New York on Wednesday and it went well. He will begin radiation treatment soon.

The Monkees in 1966. Their TV show appeared on NBC but ended after two seasons.
