President Barack Obama to Lift Federal Funding Restrictions on Stem Cell Research

Advocates of stem cell research have won a major battle as U.S. President Barack Obama is planning to reverse a federal ban on the controversial practice.

Reports have indicated that Obama would issue an executive order on Monday that would free federal funding for stem cell research concentrating on new stem cell lines.

The executive order would reverse a restriction former President George W. Bush put in place regarding research on human embryonic stem cell lines created after August 9, 2001.
