The leader of a fake Mississippi trucking company that was actually just a cover for a drug trafficking ring was recently sentenced to 12 years in prison. Five of his cronies were also put behind bars. Jessie Jerome Hall, a resident of Forest, Mississippi, plea bargained to avoid a potential life sentence.
Hall has already served prison time twice for drug offenses which he
carried out in Scott County. In this
most recent offense, Hall conspired to distribute hundreds of pounds of
marijuana into the Mississippi area. It
was only due to the efforts of local and national authorities that Hall was
stopped.
Many police officers in Mississippi were happy to see the sentencing carried through. The police chief commented that whenever a criminal enters into a plea bargain, it is a sign that the law enforcement officials have done a good job at building up and providing a good case for state prosecutors.
According to Drug Abuse Solutions, pot is considered America’s main gateway drug. It is the illegal drug most commonly abused in Mississippi. Many users of marijuana go on to harder drugs like coke, methamphetamine or heroin after they develop a tolerance to THC. It is certain that the hundreds of pounds of marijuana that Hall attempted to smuggle in to Mississippi would have had a ripple effect, destroying dozens of lives throughout the state of Mississippi. Drug abuse rehabs in Mississippi would have been hard-pressed to keep up with the demands of newly addicted individuals seeking help.
