Church Shooting in Illinois Leaves Pastor Dead, at least Five Injured

A shooting at the First Baptist Church in Maryville, Illinois on Sunday left the pastor dead and at least five others injured.

According to reports the gunman stepped on stage at the church and opened fire, striking Pastor Fred Winters three times and several parishioners before he was stabbed by a member of the congregation.

Winters was pronounced dead at Anderson Hospital while those injured in the church attack were taken to two local hospitals, two of those injured were said to be in critical condition.

The gunman was taken into police custody, it is unclear if he knew Winters or if he was a parishioner at the church.
