A
student rally in Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi turned violent on Tuesday when
the group began hurling stones at police who in turn fired tear gas at the
demonstrators.
The
students, estimated to be in the hundreds, gathered in protest over the recent
killing of a student by the police force as well as the alleged murders of two
human rights activists, a charge the police have denied.
It
was the murders of the two human rights activists that sparked an immediate
student riot last week at which one student was shot and killed by police. Student
protesters have since called for the immediate resignation of police commissioner
