AL Shooting Suspect Michael McLendon Kills 9, Kills Self

Police say believe a man named Michael McLendon is responsible for shootings in three Alabama communities.

McLendon is believed to be responsible for the deaths of 9 people, which include his mother, other family members and apparent strangers.

The rampage began when he burned down his mother’s Kinston home. Authorities say Lisa McLendon’s body was inside the home but firefighters couldn’t reach her. McLendon then headed southeast to Samson where he shot five people, 4 adults and 1 child, to death at their home. He killed two other people in their homes.

McLendon went to a gas station where he killed a woman and injured a man. He also killed someone at a Samson supply store. A state trooper and a child were also among the injured.

Police pursued McLendon to Reliable Metal Products, about 12 miles from Samson. McLendon fired about 30 rounds at authorities before entering the building a killing himself.

Investigators have refused to comment on a motive for the shootings.
