Big East Conference Tournament Scores: Marquette Golden Eagles Blast St. John’s Red Storm to Advance to Third Round

Wesley Matthews scored 20 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Lazar Hayward added 17 points and 9 boards and Jimmy Butler finished with 11 points and 9 rebounds as the Marquette Golden Eagles crushed the St. John’s Red Storm 74-45 on Wednesday to end a four game slide and advance to the third round of the Big East conference tournament.

Marquette buried St. John’s in the first half as the Red Storm hit just three field goals in the first 20 minutes as the Golden Eagles carried a 38-10 advantage into the break. The Red Storm finally found their range in the second half but by that point Marquette had already established a large enough lead to trade baskets and cruise to the win.

Marquette shot 49 percent from the field, hit 19-23 from the foul-line and outrebounded the Red Storm 35-19 to secure the win.
