North Korea Sets Early April Date for Rocket Launch

North Korea has ignored warnings from the United States and South Korea and set an early April date for its planned rocket launch which they insist is for a communication satellite.

While North Korea has said the rocket launch is peaceful many in the international community have claimed Pyongyang is preparing to test-fire a long-range missile. North Korea already test-fired the missile in July 2006 but that attempt failed less than a minute into its launch.

According to the International Maritime Organization a communication had been received from Pyongyang announcing a date between April 4 and 8 for the launch.

North Korea has warned that any attempt to shoot down the launch would result in war.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has already issued a statement in which she warned Washington has “a range of options” if the launch went forward, stoking fears that a military response could follow if North Korea carries out its plans.

North Korea has already placed its military on full alert in response to joint military exercises being carried out by the United States and South Korea in the Sea of Japan.
