Big East Tournament Men’s Basketball Round 3 Schedule: Pittsburgh Panthers and UConn Huskies Take Stage in Conference Tourney

After a wild day one in which the Big East conference tournament witnessed a pair of upsets things returned to normal on Wednesday as all the higher-ranked schools knocked off school’s hoping for an NCAA tournament ticket. Now the stage is set for the best the Big East has to offer as the top four ranked schools begin their Big East tournament with hopes of securing a #1 seed in the Big Dance.

 

Action will get under way at 12:00 p.m. ET when the Louisville Cardinals (25-5, 16-2) take on the Providence Friars (19-12, 10-8). Louisville won the Big East regular season title but could use a finals appearance in the conference tournament to earn that #1 seed in the NCAA tourney. Providence shook off a tough DePaul squad on Wednesday to advance and with the win likely lock up a tournament bid.

 

The Villanova Wildcats (25-6, 13-5) begin their conference tournament play against the Marquette Golden Eagles (24-8, 12-6) at 2:30 p.m. ET. Villanova is playing for seeding in the NCAA tournament but will have a tough task as they face the Golden Eagles. Marquette crushed St. John’s on Wednesday and are looking solid. Villanova and Marquette split their regular season showdowns.

 

In game three of the conference tournament the Pittsburgh Panthers (28-3, 15-3) take the court against the West Virginia Mountaineers (22-10, 10-8) at 7:00 p.m. ET. West Virginia took care of Notre Dame in impressive fashion on Wednesday but will have a huge task in front of them on Thursday as the face a Pittsburgh team that has already beaten them twice this year.

 

Day three of the Big East conference tournament will wrap up with the Connecticut Huskies (27-3, 15-3) facing the Syracuse Orange (24-8, 11-7) at 9:30 p.m. ET. Connecticut has shown signs of brilliance throughout the year but will certainly need a finals appearance to earn a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Syracuse likely did enough on Wednesday night to lock up an at-large bid to the dance but a win on Thursday could boost their seeding significantly.
