Medical Aid Workers Kidnapped in Darfur

Three medical aid workers who were operating in Sudan’s Darfur region remain missing after being kidnapped at gunpoint from an office on Wednesday.

The three aid workers, a part of the Belgian branch of Medecins Sans Frontiers, along with two local staff, were abducted on Wednesday but the two locals were released later in the day.

Sudan had already expelled the French and Dutch chapters of MSF earlier this month following the International Criminal Court’s decision to indict President Omar al-Bashir on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

As a result of the recent kidnappings MSF has said they would pull their remaining medical teams from Darfur but leave a crew behind to follow the case of their kidnapped colleagues.

According to the MSF the kidnapped include a Canadian nurse, an Italian doctor and a French co-ordinator.
