Big 12 Conference Tournament Scores: Baylor Bears Stun Kansas Jayhawks to Keep NCAA Tournament Dreams Alive

Nothing short of a Big 12 conference tournament title will place the Baylor Bears in the NCAA tournament and on Thursday they managed to keep their dreams alive after scoring a stunning 71-64 victory over the #1 seed Kansas Jayhawks.

LaceDarius Dunn led the Bears with 24 points and 6 rebounds while Kevin Rogers added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the upset.

It looked like Baylor would cruise to a win as they dominated the first 13 minutes of the game, building a 30-13 advantage after Curtis Jerrells buried a three-pointer. Kansas wouldn’t go away so easily though as they came out of a timeout and went on a 9-0 run and when Tyshawn Taylor hit a triple to end the half the Jayhawks had cut their deficit to 37-33.

The two teams played even for most of the first ten minutes of the second half but Tyrel Reed managed to give the Jayhawks a 54-51 lead with a  three-pointer, their first advantage since 1-0 in the opening minute of the first half. Kansas extended their lead to as many as five but Baylor didn’t fold and used a 12-2 run to grab a 65-58 lead with 3:37 left in the game.

Sherron Collins brought the Jayhawks back to within 65-64 on a three-pointer but the Bears played tough defense, grabbed rebounds and then hit their free-throws down the stretch to earn their second straight upset in the Big 12 conference tournament.
