Needing
a strong showing in the SEC conference tournament to be a serious contender for
an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament the Kentucky Wildcats showed up on
Thursday with that goal in mind and knocked off the Mississippi Rebels 71-58 to
advance to the second round.
Jodie
Meeks led the charge for the Wildcats as he poured in 25 points, 15 in the second
half, while Patrick Patterson came up huge with 15 points and 14 rebounds as
Kentucky overcame a 38-36 deficit at the break and took control in the second
half.
Kentucky
came out in the second half a different team as they opened with a 13-2 run
that gave them a 49-40 advantage and while the Rebels initially stayed close
the Wildcats never allowed their lead to slip below five.
Entering
the SEC conference tournament the Wildcats were in serious need of an
impressive showing having dropped five of their last six regular season games.
