Casey
Anthony was back in an Orlando courtroom on Thursday, sitting beside her
attorney, Jose Baez, who was requesting the judge order the prosecution to turn
over evidence that has been withheld from the defense.
Anthony
has been accused of first-degree murder in the death of her two-year-old
daughter Caylee Anthony. Casey has been jailed on those charges and has had a
tentative trial date set for Oct. 12.
On
Thursday Anthony’s attorney argued the DNA evidence and investigative reports
gathered by the prosecution should be accessible to the defense.
Casey
Anthony has maintained that she dropped Caylee off with a babysitter and when
she returned both were gone. That was believed to have been in June but Casey
didn’t report Caylee missing for more than a month and investigators quickly
began to focus on the 22-year-old mother. After gathering evidence from her
home and vehicle prosecutors determined she was responsible for Caylee’s death
and pursued first-degree murder charges prior to Caylee’s body being
discovered.
In
December the remains of Caylee Anthony were found less than a half mile from the
home she lived in with her mother and grandparents. Several pieces of evidence
found at the scene were then tied to the home.
