NBA Scores: Los Angeles Lakers Lock Up Playoff Berth with Win Over San Antonio Spurs

Kobe Bryant scored 23 points and dished out 6 assists, Paul Gasol added 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Lamar Odom finished with 12 points and 10 boards as the Los Angeles Lakers (52-13) knocked off the San Antonio Spurs (43-21) 102-95 on Thursday to lock up a Western Conference playoff berth.

Los Angeles put San Antonio in a deep hole early in the first frame and built a 23-9 lead and finished the quarter with a 35-17 advantage. The Spurs managed to cut climb to within 39-31 in the second quarter after Michael Finley buried a three-pointer but the Lakers responded with an 8-0 run and quickly reclaimed command, ending the half with a 53-38 lead.

The Spurs were able to get as close as 67-60 in the third quarter but once again the Lakers stepped up when they needed and pushed their lead back to 13 before settling for a 78-70 lead heading into the final frame. Less than two minutes into the fourth Michael Finley hit a triple to get the Spurs to within 81-77 but another 8-0 run from L.A. gave them an 89-77 cushion and it appeared San Antonio was done.

San Antonio wasn’t done though as they put together a run of their own, a 16-5 spurt that put the Spurs within 95-93 with 2:18 left on the clock. L.A. turned to Kobe and he buried a three-pointer for a 98-93 advantage and the Spurs could never get over the hump.
