ACC Men’s Basketball Conference Tournament Semifinals Schedule: North Carolina Tar Heels on Target for #1 Overall Seed

The quarterfinals of the ACC conference tournament provided plenty of dramatics as three of the four games were decided by three points or less and the fourth game ended in an upset. Despite all the close games the ACC semifinals still has its top two seeds in North Carolina and Duke while Florida State was seeded fourth and Maryland was expected to cause problems.

In game one of the ACC conference tournament on Saturday the North Carolina Tar Heels (28-3, 13-3) will face the Florida State Seminoles (24-8, 10-6) at 1:30 p.m. ET. The Tar Heels survived a major scare from Virginia Tech on Friday while FSU did the same as Boston College gave them everything they could handle. UNC is still shooting for a #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and an ACC conference tournament championship would almost certainly lock that up. In their only match-up this year the Tar Heels knocked off the Seminoles 80-77.

The Duke Blue Devils (26-6, 11-5) and the Maryland Terrapins (20-12, 7-9) will meet at 4:00 p.m. ET in the other ACC semifinals and that promises to be a battle as the two teams have had some history this year. Duke escaped an upset bid from Boston College to advance while Maryland all but punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament with an upset win over Wake Forest. While the Terrapins have picked off the Tar Heels and the Demon Deacons they haven’t been able to get past the Blue Devils including a 41-point loss at Duke.
