Australian Oil Spill Could Devastate Wildlife as Beaches Along Sunshine Coast Declared Disaster Zones

State authorities in Australia are now saying the oil spill off the coast of Queensland is ten times worse than originally thought and the damage caused could now devastate wildlife and leave the natural surroundings along the Sunshine Coast in question.

Authorities are now saying more than 230 tonnes of oil leaked from the Hong Kong-registered ship Pacific Adventurer. The ship was caught in high seas caused by Cyclone Hamish and the rough waters sent 31 containers of ammonium nitrate fertilizer into the seas. As those containers fell the hull of the ship was punctured and the oil began to spill.

Now environmentalists are concerned about the carcinogenic sludge that threatens to devastate sea life as well as the beaches that run along the Sunshine Coast. Several of those beaches have already been declared disaster zones.
