Four
UN aid workers have been kidnapped by gunmen in southern Somalia after their
vehicle was forced to stop while they were traveling towards an airstrip about
200 miles northwest of the capital Mogadishu.
There
have been no claims of responsibility for the kidnappings but the area where the
incident occurred, Wajid, has a large presence of Islamist al-Shabab
insurgents.
The
nationalities of those kidnapped have not been released but it is believed
three of the four are foreigners. According to reports the workers had been on
a stopover between Puntland in northern Somalia and their destination of Kenya.
