Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir Wants International Aid Groups Out of Country

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has called for the removal of all international aid groups from the country, accusing the organizations of acting as spies for the International Criminal Court.

Al-Bashir was addressing a large military rally in Khartoum when he announced that he wanted the international organizations out within a year, telling the security forces, “Within a year, we don't want to see any foreign aid group dealing with a Sudanese citizen.”

The controversial President has already expelled 13 foreign agencies from Sudan after blaming them for an arrest warrant issued by the ICC. Al-Bashir has been accused by the ICC of war crimes in Darfur where more than 300,000 people have been killed since 2003.

According to the United Nations the expulsion of international agencies from Sudan would leave the country facing a greater humanitarian crisis than the one they are currently enduring. In response to those allegations al-Bashir told the rally “If they want to bring relief, let them drop it at airports or seaports. Let the national organizations deal with our citizens.”
