U.S. Forces Confirm Downing of Iranian Drone in Iraqi Airspace

The U.S. has confirmed that it shot down an Iranian drone that had been flying in Iraqi airspace last month.

According to a military spokesman the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle had been spotted about 60 miles northeast of Baghdad when it was engaged by U.S. forces. It was the belief of the spokesman that the Iranians had intentionally placed the drone in Iraqi airspace as part of their efforts to interfere in Iraqi affairs.

The drone was believed to have been in Iraqi airspace for more than an hour on Feb. 25 before an order to shoot it down was given.
